Inventory software for hot dog stands
Crumble is an inventory system for small food businesses. You set up recipe cards, track stock and sales, and cost per portion is calculated automatically. Let's look at the problems a hot dog stand runs into and how to solve them.
Problems and solutions
Problems every hot dog stand runs into
Almost all of them come down to one thing: money leaking out unnoticed. Here's what happens and what to do about it.
Sauces and toppings added by eye
The sausage and bun are counted by the piece, but mustard, ketchup, onion, and pickles get added however much fits.
Cost keeps shifting
On a low-cost product, an extra 20 g of toppings noticeably cuts into margin.
One recipe card for everyone
Quantities are locked into the recipe, and every sale deducts ingredients accordingly. If actual usage is higher, it shows up at stocktaking.
The internet drops
Kiosks and street stands often run on mobile internet, which drops out at the worst possible moment.
Checkout stalls
Sales get written on a scrap of paper, and no one ever enters them into the books.
Works without internet
Crumble keeps selling offline and saves operations on the device, then syncs them without loss or duplicates once the connection returns.
Sausages and buns run out at peak hour
Stock levels are known roughly, and orders to suppliers go out only once the shelf is already empty.
Lost sales
Items go on the stop list at the most profitable moment, and the supplier won't deliver until tomorrow.
Minimum stock levels
Set a minimum for key products — Crumble will notify you as soon as stock drops below it, while there's still time to order.
Stocktaking in a notebook never adds up
Sausages, buns, sauces, and packaging are counted by hand and checked against records that only cover part of the sales.
Shortages with no explanation
It's unclear where the error is: in the count, in the records, or in the stockroom.
Stock counts itself
Stock updates after every sale and delivery. At stocktaking you just enter the actual count, and Crumble calculates the discrepancy for you.
Cost and price
How to calculate hot dog cost
Cost per portion is the sum of everything that goes into one portion, per the recipe card. Price is calculated from cost and the margin you want on each sale.
Calculate it yourself
Cost = sausage + bun + sauces + toppings + packaging
Hot dog price
230 ₽
cost 78 ₽ · 152 ₽ left from each sale
Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin)
