Problems and solutions

Problems every micromarket runs into

Almost all of them come down to one thing: money leaking out unnoticed. Here's what happens and what to do about it.

What happens
The risk
How Crumble fixes it

Sandwiches, salads, and dairy spoil

They have a short shelf life, and leftovers get pulled straight from the shelf without being recorded.

Write-offs that skip the books

There's no visibility into how much product ends up in the trash or how much to order next time.

Expiry dates and write-offs

Crumble warns you ahead of expiry dates, and every write-off is logged with a reason.

Several locations, one warehouse

Product is delivered from the warehouse to offices and residential complexes, and stock at each location is known only roughly.

Empty here, expired there

One location runs out of stock while another has it going bad.

Stock by location and transfers

Each location has its own stock, and transfers between them take just a couple of clicks.

Shortages on the shelf

Without a cashier, some product walks off unpaid, and the only way to know how much is a physical count.

Losses with no explanation

It's unclear where product is disappearing and at which location.

Stocktaking by location

Stock updates after every sale. At stocktaking you enter the actual count, and Crumble calculates the discrepancy per location for you.

Markup doesn't keep up with purchase prices

Suppliers change prices, but the price on the shelf stays the same.

Margin quietly evaporates

Every price hike eats into profit on each sale, and you only notice it at month end.

Cost based on current prices

Crumble calculates cost from purchase prices and recalculates it whenever prices change.

Cost and price

How to calculate product price in a micromarket

Cost per portion is the sum of everything that goes into one portion, per the recipe card. Price is calculated from cost and the margin you want on each sale.

Calculate it yourself

Margin 40%

Cost = purchase price + packaging + delivery to location

Sandwich price

220 ₽

cost 128 ₽ · 92 ₽ left from each sale

Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin)

FAQ

Inventory in a micromarket

Set up stock items (products, packaging), create a recipe card for each menu item, and record deliveries as goods receipts. From there, every sale deducts ingredients automatically, and stocktaking once a week is enough.
